There is increased speculation amongst Apple rumor blogs that a seven inch iPad could possibly be in the pipeline.
The rumors propose that this smaller iPad will have the identical specifications of the new iPad, including the retina display, just a smaller size. The rumored price for the new device is an amazing $200 to $250. The conjecture for the seven inch iPad is based around a belief that Apple wants to have even greater dominance in the tablet market and a seven inch tablet would strengthen their hold against competitors like the Kindle Fire, Nook and other devices. The rumors also point to an October 2012 release.
Wow! I have no idea if the rumors hold any truth, but the idea of a more affordable iPad would be ideal for education. I want to believe.
If Apple did add additional models to their iPad lineup it would not be entirely foreign. Apple’s iPod line had many models with varying sizes, color, storage, and prices which left no room for any competitor to compete at any price point. The shuffle was the best inexpensive MP3 player and they dominated the entire way up. This, of course, is all just fun speculation. Apple dominates the tablet market and the iPad, as it is, is just perfect. The amazingly-low, proposed price would be awfully close to the iPod Touch pricing.
I would love to see an more affordable iPad for education. I am wondering aloud if an ‘educational’ iPad with aggressive pricing could be achieved by forgoing the retina display and replacing the aluminum back with plastic that was used on the earlier iPhones.
Imagine this smaller iPad (or any iPad) combined with Apple’s text books, educational apps, bundled with Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. Love it!
iPads are perfect for the classroom and I get excited when I read of possibilities of iPads becoming more obtainable for all students.
Would you like to see a seven inch iPad? Do you believe the possible rumor? Looking forward to your thoughts in the comment section below.
