Padcaster productshot1

The Padcaster is a unique product that allows you to mount your iPad to a tripod (and many other places) and attach external devices, such as microphones, while still allowing you to remove the device quickly without unhooking everything.

The Padcaster is a strong, lightweight aluminum frame that has a 1/4 and 3/3 threaded holes on each side, with an internal molded urethane insert to safely secure your iPad and allow a speedy removal. The threaded holes allow you to attach the framed iPad into any tripod or similar device.

Why would I want to put my iPad in a Padcaster?

The reason is simple. Your iPad is an all-in-one solution to shoot, edit, and publish video without having to upload, render, and other time consuming misadventures when using digital cameras. People want to be able to do it all, well, from one device. Well, the Padcaster enhances that experience on the iPad by stabilizing the iPad, removing arm fatigue, and offering the opportunity to add and upgrade higher quality mice, lighting and more.  All with ought losing the ability to easily pop the iPad in and out of the Padcaster.  You can even attach amazing high-quality lenses.  (Check out the photos below.)

How to Upload an iMovie to Edmodo

kcroy —  October 31, 2012 — 1 Comment

Edmodo has been a wonderful resource for my classroom. As an English teacher, I love that my students can post a paper that they have written and receive feedback from their classmates and teachers, and store their work right on the site.

My students and I do a lot of digital storytelling. Like many teachers, I “trick” my students into writing by having them create scripts and writings for digital projects. For the longest time I could not figure out how to get an iMovie into Edmodo. Here’s the solution and it’s quick!

I blasted a couple of tweets, took some suggestions, made some modifications, and had a solution in minutes. Twitter is full of amazing educators. (Special thanks to @sjunkins and especially

Iphone pocket

“lorrain croy” lorrain croy

One of the most amazing statistics in education that I have recently read is from a Piper Jaffray survey indicating that one third of American high school students own an iPhone, and that 40% plan on purchasing one in the next six months (via MacRumors article 4-3-12). This survey does not even account for other types of smartphones and tablet devices.

I found the number to be so amazing that I had to do some informal surveying of my own with friends who teach in various locations across the nation.  Not only did they support the findings of the survey, but they also shared interesting stories that shed light on usage within the classroom, and even debunked preconceived notions of the economic background of an iPhone owning student. (A friend told me that even some of his students on free or reduced lunches own iPhones. I think most people assume that iPhones are owned only by affluent homes.)

How can teachers and schools capitalize on the proliferation of iPhones and iOS devices to better the learning experience?

Wired Educator’s Grade Card is out and Ecamm’s Call Recorder plug-in for Skype receives our highest marks.

Wired Educator is very excited to post our review Ecamm’s Mac Call Recorder.  It is an incredible solution for voice and video call recording in Skype. We found it incredibly easy to use and a worthwhile app the we plan to use on Wired Educator to produce podcast interviews with teachers, administrators, developers, and other interesting individuals impacting technology in education.

Call Recorder in the Classroom:

I wish I had Mac Call Recorder a couple of years ago. My students and I contacted award-winning author AVI for a Skype interview. It was one of the most rewarding and worthwhile Continue Reading…

WE Anime

Digital Story Telling is at the forefront of Education and there are many powerful and fun options available on a variety of devices, but until now one genre has been significantly absent, animation. Animation has traditionally been a laborious process and a consumer of time, making it difficult and impractical for a student project in a typical classroom. Until now.

Ever since I saw my first animated film as a child I wanted to make one.  I gave it couple of attempts in high school, but nothing turned out like I wanted. I personally found the process to be difficult and time consuming. My finished project  was lacking. Later, as a veteran English teacher, with a strong interest and background in both art and technology, I continued my search. My students shared their interests in creating an animated story.  Again, I tried many types of software, but nothing came out as we had hoped and it was difficult to learn, and an incredible investment of time. Some of the software I tried was expensive too.

Well, I have finally found the solution; I am proud to review and recommend Anime Studio.

Anime Studio is powerful, easy to use, inexpensive, and

DAY 12TH WE

On the twelfth day of Christmas Wired Educator gave to me…”

A You Rock Guitar!

Boom!

Today is our twelfth and final day of our 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway and today’s gift to you is absolutely cool.

I do not play guitar, and maybe you don’t either, but I have always had a secret dream of learning a song or two and rock one out. I’ve also secretly wished that all of those hours pretending of rocking to Guitar Hero and Rock Band would lead toward some sort of musical talent or benefit.

Providing a video lesson is of growing importance for educators and students. It allows remedial education and learning outside the regular classroom time and space, while enhancing learning opportunities during the typical school day, as well as promoting student  independence. It is also a great way to archive your best work to better manage time to allow more one-on-one instruction with students.ScreenFlow is the perfect solution for educators that would like to make screencast video tutorials, training videos, how-to lessons, explanations, and more for their students and colleagues. It is easy to use and has a lot of great features. I have tried other screen capture tools and they simply do not compare to the ease-of-use and the feature-rich options of ScreenFlow.

ScreenFlow gives you a lot of options and power, but doesn’t overwhelm you with buttons and such.  Recording and editing are straightforward.  The user interface is simple and looks good.  Your finished product looks professional and takes little time.  You can capture what’s on your monitor, from a camera or iSight, record external mics, or just your computer’s audio. What’s not to like?

Your finished product is

Boinx TV 2BoinxTV is perfect for school video production. After working with the program the very first time it is easy to see why it won Apple’s Design Award for excellent usability and innovation. The program is easy to use and adds capabilities not available in iMovie.

iMovie is a fantastic tool for creating video projects in the classroom. It is, and will always be, a primary tool for my students and myself. What I like about BoinxTV is that I can create wonderfully edited videos to be shared later with amazing effects, just like iMovie, and I can also create live video productions full of amazing effects, something iMovie is not able to do. Also, Boinx effects can be added during filming. This will save time and provide immediate gratification to you and your students. Imagine interviewing a guest speaker with the subtitle, background, and other effects being layered during the actual recording. Brilliant!

Another important quality of BoinxTV, and any piece of educational software, is Continue Reading…
