Pub motioncomposer

Motion Composer for the Mac is a great application for your Mac that allows you to create engaging animations and interactive content for any platform in HTML 5 or Flash without writing any code.  The animations you create will work on desktops, phones or tablets. The animations you create have an ‘inner intelligence” that once created, detect if the device you are using has Flash. If it does, it uses it, and if it doesn’t it uses HTML5.  Pretty cool.

What I like BEST about Motion Composer is that it allows to embed really cool animation in iBooks Author easily.  If you are working with iBooks Author I highly recommend this application.

You can use objects, pictures, text, video, and sound with Motion Composer and it will wrap them all together. I really liked the ability to drop and drag content from iTunes. Once you content is dropped onto the initial slide you can move it around to the different state you want within the time frame. So, if I drop text onto the slide I have a starting position and then I move it to a secondary position. On playback Motion composer will show the progress from the first to second position.

You can create a text box button for the user to click. You program this button to perform an animation or activate some action.

You can test your animations out which is very handy.

Like advanced Keynote users, you can place elements off the viewing area of the slide and have them move into view on the animation.  There are lots of great features and some advanced functions.

Teaching Table is a Math App for the iPad that allows math teachers to create interactive lessons for their students. The teacher-created lessons allow students to interact with digital manipulatives to solve problems and learn math concepts.

This is a great iPad app for Math that allows educators to create lessons that match their curriculum. Teachers will no longer be forced to purchase apps off the store to address single concepts and lessons; teaching table is adaptable to any lesson by using visual representations of math concepts within an interactive user interface for the learner.

Using Teaching Table, educators can Continue Reading…

I really like the new Mountain Lion OS on my Late 2012 MacBook Air, but I was a little disappointed that it didn’t support AirPlay Mirroring.  That was a feature I wanted to deploy in my classroom via my iPad and MacBook. If you’re not sure why AirPlay Mirroring is perfect for education, you must read Larry Reiff’s incredible article, Wireless Educator.) Luckily I discovered this gem of ann app for my MacBook Air, AirParrot, that allows me to mirror my computer’s image through my AppleTV and project it for my students to see.

Shakespeare & The iPad

Since the introduction of Apple’s first iPad, tablet devices have been finding their way into classrooms all over the world. Their portability, adaptability, and ease of use make them the perfect tool for teaching Shakespeare to our students.  As an English teacher, I believe the that the best way for my students to learn Shakespeare is to interact with his words.  The iPad and other iOS devices are the perfect tools allowing students to fully connect with Shakespeare’s text.  Most English teachers are aware of the basic Shakespeare apps, most of which are just a collection of his works.  Some other apps, such as Shakespeare in Bits, are useful, but they are somewhat limited and don’t really offer the student an opportunity to immerse themselves in the text.  However, there are plenty of other apps that can transform the way you teach Shakespeare in the classroom.

Is it sacrilege to cut lines out of Shakespeare? Continue Reading…

Wired Educator’s Grade Card is out and Ecamm’s Call Recorder plug-in for Skype receives our highest marks.

Wired Educator is very excited to post our review Ecamm’s Mac Call Recorder.  It is an incredible solution for voice and video call recording in Skype. We found it incredibly easy to use and a worthwhile app the we plan to use on Wired Educator to produce podcast interviews with teachers, administrators, developers, and other interesting individuals impacting technology in education.

Call Recorder in the Classroom:

I wish I had Mac Call Recorder a couple of years ago. My students and I contacted award-winning author AVI for a Skype interview. It was one of the most rewarding and worthwhile Continue Reading…

Mac os x mountain lion features 610There’s a new operating system on its way from Apple and it is called Mountain Lion. Forget that Lion is just six months old and you might not even have installed it or mastered all of its features. Mountain Lion is on the way. Mountain Lion has some great, great, great features available for you and your classroom.

One feature I really liked for my classroom about Lion was AirDrop. In AirDrop students and teachers using the same WiFi can drag and drop work onto other computer icons on a WWII type scope. I found it a slick way for students to turn in their work.  So, I wonder, what cool teaching features might Mountain Lion have in store for my classroom and yours?

Severa iOS apps and features are coming to the Mac via Mountain Lion.  Get ready for: Reminders, Notification Center, Gatekeeper, Notes, Game Center (Don’t see you using that one.) , and some changes to some other apps.

Like Lion, Mountain Lion offers an upgrade that will more closely resemble iOS features like you experience on your iPhone and iPad. Merging the iOS iPad and iPhone experience and the Mac seems to be the direction Apple is moving.  I am VERY excited about AirPlay Mirroring in my classroom. We should also expect name changes and feature updates to iCal and Address book to Calendar and Contacts with more of an iOS look.

Planbook.com is a great resource for creating and sharing your lesson plans.

When I first started teaching I kept all of my lessons in a spiral bound lesson plan book with a pencil. I made photo copies in the school office and placed them in the mailbox of everyone that needed them. Nothing fun or convenient about that. If there was a change or someone needed a copy there was always the eraser and photocopier. In more recent years I developed a spreadsheet template and started emailing my plans and posting them on my personal website. While that was much easier there were still some redundant steps involved in getting information in the hands of others. Sharing a Google Doc is another great way to get your lesson plans out, but you still need to create a template that works and share the document with those that need it. Continue Reading…

WE Anime

Digital Story Telling is at the forefront of Education and there are many powerful and fun options available on a variety of devices, but until now one genre has been significantly absent, animation. Animation has traditionally been a laborious process and a consumer of time, making it difficult and impractical for a student project in a typical classroom. Until now.

Ever since I saw my first animated film as a child I wanted to make one.  I gave it couple of attempts in high school, but nothing turned out like I wanted. I personally found the process to be difficult and time consuming. My finished project  was lacking. Later, as a veteran English teacher, with a strong interest and background in both art and technology, I continued my search. My students shared their interests in creating an animated story.  Again, I tried many types of software, but nothing came out as we had hoped and it was difficult to learn, and an incredible investment of time. Some of the software I tried was expensive too.

Well, I have finally found the solution; I am proud to review and recommend Anime Studio.

Anime Studio is powerful, easy to use, inexpensive, and
